...and other collisions of sports and faith

Server Move

If you're new here, and you're into sports and/or the Christian faith, subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It was about 7 months ago that I launched Prayers For Blowouts, and thanks to those of you who are faithful readers (you know who you are), the site has gained steadily in popularity since its inception. My goal when I started the site was to be a trusted source of insightful sports commentary and a bulletin board for issues that lived at the intersection of Sports and Faith. I think I’ve been able to provide that to this point, and hopefully I’m getting better at it all the time.

I bring this up now for 2 reasons:

1 - There will be some changes coming to the site in the next month or so that should improve upon the foundation I’ve established here. I am very excited to announce them…but I won’t just yet. Stay Tuned.

2 - In anticipation of the changes that I’ll be making, I’ve decided to move the site to a different server. This new server will not only provide a more reliable home for us, it will also make your teeth whiter, your breath fresher, and your tee shots longer and straighter.

The server change will happen tomorrow morning (May 15th). There may or may not be a few hours in there where we go off the air. I wanted to give you a heads up in case you were freaked out by the thought that we were closing up shop here and bidding adieu to the internets. On the contrary, I think we’re just getting started.

-bryan

ps…while I’m here, I might as well ask. Is there anything you’d love to see more or less of on the site? your feedback is more important than you think it is…

    Just an idea:

I like the PFB surveys because I get to see the role sports play in others’ lives. I think it would be cool if there were a few standard questions and then it were more personalized. That way, you could delve into each person’s particular experiences or view of sports. Something like e-mailed interview banter. I know that would take more work, of course. I think there are probably times where the current questions don’t play into everyone’s wheelhouse. All I’m saying, I guess, is it may add some depth/teeth.

I think the content, in general, is very good. I like to read-up on issues or articles that I would otherwise miss.

In closing, watch out for the Red Wings and Pistons.

thanks aaron. it’s something i’ve definitely thought of doing before. The nice thing about the survey is that its only a 15-minute commitment and that’s it. Not everyone would be up for an email interview format, but i think i can make it happen. good thoughts…

More praise for your buddy/sysadmin who does all these things for you for free.

Oh, and what Aaron said. Other than watching out for the Dead Wings. Jesus said to love your enemies, but I can’t do that.

Yeah, I’m with you on that Bryan. I’m sure its hard enough to get access to begin with.

Also, I’m in roughly the same area of Wide Open Spaces as you were yesterday. I’ve found it pretty provocative so far. I think it takes some guts to have stances that oppose “the church” in some respects and it’s really speaking to me. Lots of food for thought so far.

    Geof - who/what is your team? I’m salivating for a Detroit/Pittsburgh final.

I think a good question would be to ask your featured guests to expound on the existential nature of God and man along with their thoughts the designated hitter in the MLB…

Aaron: Bruins forever. [Specifically, a Bruins/Celtics fan due to the combo of Bourque and Bird, and a Reds and Bengals fan because I happened to live in Dayton in the 1980s. The last 15 years of being a sports fan have sucked for me, but at least I'm not from Cleveland.]
