Should He Play or Should He Go?

If you're new here, and you're into sports, christianity, and/or things that are funnier than Dane Cook, subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Pastor Mark Batterson, who we poked fun at last year for his sportsfan schizophrenia, says he “used to be a Packers fan”, but based on their recent treatment of Brett Favre, he’s ticked at the organization.

Personally, I’m at the other end of the spectrum. I am sick and tired of not only his waffling, but the way he does it. It’s as if he enjoys the attention that a “retirement year” brings, that he’s decided to do it every year.

You know what Brett Favre feels like to me at this point? A store that has had a big “Going Out of Business” sign on it for the past 3 years.

Do you still get good deals there? Sure. But that doesn’t mean you don’t find the whole thing very annoying.

What about you, fellow reader? Vote in our newest poll and add your two cents in the comments section.

Which best sums up your thoughts on Favre?

Yeah, I’m no football fan, but this is just getting crazy. The Packers planned to move on without him, and I’m happy they’re sticking to that plan.

I even got sick of Roger Clemens doing the “I’m in, I’m out, I’m in, I’m out…wait I’m in” thing, and I actually like him.

If Brett wants to play again, fine. But I don’t think that he should expect the Pack to just cut him. That makes no business sense.

Also, that said … why has no one in the media brought up the cap situation? Did Brett’s cap number go away just because he retired? Did they take the penalty on amortizing his signing bonus already? I’m lost.

Farve should driver bus for Madden. Enough already.

On a personal level I love Brett. He is a Mississippi boy and we love him just because of that. He has football in his blood and I know that it is just pulling at him, but he needs to let his “yes be yes and no be no” OR rather let his retirement be retirement.

I have been saying for years that I think Favre is a jerk, holding the Packers in limbo every offseason with this same routine. I understand he wants to play but the way he has handled it every year is totally irresponsible and makes it difficult for the Packers to plan for life with or without him.

    I hope he stays retired.

I like him enough, I guess, but I’m totally annoyed by the retirement waffling. Of any player, whether it’s Favre or Jordan or Ryne Sandberg. I’m not sure if it’s an inability to get the competition out of the bloodstream or a need for the attention it brings, but I wish retiring athletes would just shut up and stay retired. Is this the third year Favre announced his impending retirement and marched through a farewell season and then held Green Bay hostage with hints of the season to come? Seriously, every time he does this I think less of him. At this point, I don’t care about him going out on top. I just want him to go.

If the guy wants to play, fine, have him come back and play, but this waffling thing is annoying. Also, there’s no reason he should automatically expect that the Packers are gonna unconditionally release him.

I’d really just prefer he stays retired… but if you want to play, Brett, can you just get back into it without the whining?

What’s the worst that could happen if we take him back?

We make it back to the NFC Championship, it’s in Green Bay and we have an old quarterback who is awesome except when it’s really cold.

    Old + Cold = Trouble

If he wants to come back, the Pack should trade him for some 1R picks.

    GO PACK GO!
