If you're new here, and you're into sports and/or the Christian faith, subscribe to our RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

i had to post something to get rid of that ghastly picture of Rick “The Big Unit” Warren…

+ Pastor Mark Batterson will be doing the pre-game chapel for the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to their last preseason game. Perhaps we should add a fourth jersey to the mix…or will the Jags replace the Jags as favorite team #3?

+ As a semi-informed Red Sox fan, let me give you my opinion on Manny Ramirez as well as what I think will happen. Manny Ramirez is a diva and a goofball. For years, he has made sure that his goofball level always surpassed his diva level, at least as he was perceived by fans. This year, however, he’s not hiding it. Seems like his manager, and his teammates, are pretty tired of him sitting out games against tough righties and not really caring if the Red Sox win. Peter Gammons says it’s taking a huge toll on Terry Francona, and for that reason, I do think this will be Manny’s last year with the team. I think the Red Sox do not pick up his option this offseason and the Yankees, Mets, Phillies, or Angels sign him to a 4-year, $70 million dollar deal. Meanwhile, the Red Sox can move Ellsbury to LF, play Crisp in CF, and spend the money bringing in a better SS (maybe by trading Jed Lowrie) or more pitching. (and yes, Manny would play for the Yankees in a heartbeat…but we already knew that.)

+ Did you know John Paul II addressed the issues of sports in 120 speeches and messages he delivered? So says Bishop Carlo Mazza, who presented the John Paul II Foundation For Sports yesterday at the Vatican.

+ John Beck is one of 4 Miami Dolphins who have completed 2-year Mormon mission trips. (the article interestingly notes that Steve Young, a direct descendant of Brigham Young, did not go on a 2-year trip.)

+ I bought my son Parker his first set of golf clubs yesterday. Tiger Woods is officially on notice.

Playing Ellsbury and Crisp in the same OF is a waste, especially as Papi’s bat is on the decline and Varitek is now in Ausmus territory. Better off signing Adam Dunn with the money the Sox don’t spend on Manny.

Please note that, when this happens, I’m not talking to you for a week.
