+ Ben Shpigel of the New York Times’ writes about the resurgence of New York Mets’ outfielder Fernando Tatis. What brought Tatis back from a 2-year hiatus from baseball where he essentially “did nothing”? Was it the desire to play ball again? A craving for the spotlight and the cheering crowds? The privelige of playing on my fantasy team?

Actually, it was the none of the above. Tatis came back because he needed money to buy some land in his town to build a church, and baseball was the only way he was going to get it.

+ Art Monk and Darrell Green were among those inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Monk said of his faith,

“So I’ve learned a long time ago never to put my faith or trust in man, for man will always fail you. Man will always disappoint you. But the word of God says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. And he will never fail you.”

Green had this to say about whether he belonged in the Hall,

“I belong here because I know what to do with it. I know what to do with God’s fame, with God’s dollars, with God’s visibility, God’s influence and relationships. I know what to do with it. To Jesus be the glory. Thank you. Bless you.”

You can read the full transcript of Monk’s and Green’s speeches here and here.

+ Remember Corey Lynch, the Cincinnati Bengals 6th round pick who is Billy Graham’s grandson? Apparently he’s been playing well in the pre-season. Bengals fans, take heart!

it kind of makes you wonder how many guys could still play in the big leagues if they had the motivation.
