Tri Time Q&A 3

Posted on Fri Sep 5th, 2008 - 11:14 am

Q: Remember when I posted about signing up for my first triathlon?

A: No, Jason, it’s not like we keep track of your every posting or anything. We only read Bryan’s stuff because he knows famous people like Don Miller and Derek Webb.

Q: Oh.

A: We’d say the same thing about Jesse Carey, but he only posted once. It was back during the Clinton administration.

Q: I remember that post. It was really good. He set the bar high, and then disappeared off the face of the earth. I’d forgotten about him until he responded to the NFL survey.

A: Should we be concerned? Should someone check on him?

(crickets)

Q: So anyway…that triathlon I was talking about? It’s tomorrow.

A: Are you prepared?

Q: Stop it. I’m the one with the Q. I ask the questions.

A: Sorry.

Q: Yes, I’m prepared. Back in June, when I decided to do this, I’d never really run further than a mile at a time. And that was pretty rare. Now I can run 4 or 5 miles without dying. That’s a pretty big step for me.

A: Quit bragging.

Q: You’re mean. Anyway, the tri is tomorrow. It’s short but challenging, like Jean-Claude Van Damme. Lots of hills, including one on the bike portion that (I’ve heard) makes lots of serious triathletes end up jumping off their bikes and just running up it.

A: Dude.

Q: I know. Anyway, I’ve already done a flat, “easy” tri this summer, so I feel as prepared as I’m gonna be for this one. I’ll let you know. My only goal is to make Jim proud.

A: Who’s Jim?

Q: He used to post here, too.

Have a great tri, jason! bike-swim-run to the best of your ability! or is it swim-bike-run? i think they should actually have all 3 legs start and end at the same place, and then have you pull out a sheet of paper when the gun sounds to see what event you have to do first. then when you finish that you pull another one to see what’s next. tell me that wouldn’t make a triathlon even more interesting!

@Geof: I will indeed. Even if it’s my own.

@Bryan: That’s an excellent idea. I’m gonna bring it up at tonight’s orientation. We could call it a “Mysteriathlon.”
