UFR: Brady, Serena, and East Carolina 7

Posted on Mon Sep 8th, 2008 - 09:29 am

Judging from that graphic, one might think I am under the impression that the big news of the weekend was Serena Williams winning her ninth grand slam. Of course, you and I know the injury Tom Brady was much more significant…but dude, look at those guns she has. Seriously, she could rip you apart. What you don’t think so? I do. Right now you are sitting in a comfy chair reading a sports blog while she is warming up for her morning workout by ripping phone books in half with one hand. You lose.

Moving on…my mild Patriots-fandom aside, I am a bit disappointed in seeing Brady go down for the year (which is what everyone is reporting at this point except the Patriots themselves). Am I alone in this? Patriot-haters, other than hoping that Brady’s knee is okay in the long term, are you smiling a little on the inside about this? What about those of you who are indifferent to the Pats (if such a group even exists?), do you feel robbed of seeing how well the Patriots would have fared this season, or are you happy that your team now has a better chance of winning? What about those of you who reached for Brady with a Top-3 fantasy pick? How you feeling this morning?

And yes, there were a hundred other story lines this weekend. We’d love to hear your take on all of them. Did you watch the tennis? Was there even golf on? Do you care that the DBacks and Rays got swept this weekend? Did Jimmy Johnson just put himself in position to win that NASCAR playoff thingy again? How’d your college football team do? More importantly, how is your fantasy football team doing with 2 games left in Week 1?

Upon Further Review, what were your thoughts on the weekend that was?

I’m very, very sad that I let Willie Parker go from my keepers fantasy team this year. I had to choose between him and Antonio Gates and I just couldn’t help but feel like Parker had peaked. Gates is ok, but I fear I have made a very bad error.

Paul Johnson is proving the triple option can work at Georgia Tech. Josh Nesbitt and Jonathan Dwyer are every bit the studs that we thought they would be when they arrived at Tech. Not that we’re going to win the National Championship, but in a very soft ACC this is looking like a it’s not going to be a “lost year” like I thought it would be.

yeah, even though BC is unranked, I thought that was a pretty good win to go up to Boston and win a close one. Parker did look good yesterday…the Texans did not.

I am thankful this morning for: Not having a top 5 pick, the(at the time)idiot waterDonkeys for drafting Moss 1 pick before me, my brother-in-law that lives in Tenessee and kept raving about Chris Johnson, and Tulane’s forte being producing great running backs.

Brady going down is like Darth Vader going down and not able to lead the attack on the Rebel Alliance.

Favre looked like vintage Favre, but NY should not get too excited since it was Miami. Regardless of how he does this year, the Pack did the right thing. GO PACK GO!

How dare you compare Brady to Vader! Brady is pure and wholesome like a slight hint of Stetson cologne amid a field of flowers.

Should be some fun games tonight!

I’m done with the Bengals. DONE. They’re going to waste one of the NFL’s top-five QB talents, they continue to bring in malcontents and talk out of both sides of their mouth, and I’m just done.

And since 1) I know a guy that plays for the Pats and 2) there is an exodus from the Patriots’ bandwagon with Brady’s injury crippling their 2008 season, I am strongly considering becoming a Pats fan. [I'm already a Celtics and Bruins fan.]

I am waiting for Bryan to okay this, though.
