ESPN Classic was re-running a Cowboys/Eagles playoff game from the mid-90’s this past weekend, and I was stunned by just how… scrawny Ed Hochuli looked back then. It’s not quite as stunning as the Barry Bonds before/after juicing photos, but it’s close. (Not that I’m suggesting Hochuli is on the juice… but, wow.)

We’d sure hate for them to go to referee school, or practice, or stay in shape so they are in position to make the call. That would be a terrible use of spring and summer.

I agree Geof, it’s preposterous to me.

Then again, is being an NFL Official really a full time job? What is Ed Hochuli going to do with himself from February to July? I mean, there’s only so many chin-ups a guy can do before he gets bored and starts getting into trouble.

Hochuli blew it, but he’s at least being a man about it.

Still kills me that NFL officials aren’t full-time guys. You’re telling me that a league that brings in billions can’t spend the money to have full-time refs? Really? And we’re okay with this?
