PFB Relaunch: November 2, 2009 @ 8:00 AM EST 2

Posted on October 29, 2009 by Joshua

Dear Readers:

So, it’s been a little bit longer than I originally anticipated. I greatly apologize if you’ve missed your PFB Daily Dosage… but have no fear; we’re coming back on November 2, 2009 at 8:00 AM EST.

We have some pretty big festivities lined up for the week ahead. Not only will we be providing you with all the sports news we can think of, we’re also going to be unveiling new columns from myself, as well as our newest writers, Eric Geisbert , Matt Ralph and Michael Terry. We’ll also have the first ever “Ask Dr. D” mailbag, the return of Truth and Lies and our new Friday feature, “The Airing of Grievances”. Here’s how it works:

+”The Airing of Grievances” is you, the sports fans, chance to sound off on the world of sports in 100 words or less.

+We’ll open a thread on Friday Morning for you to air your frustrations in the comments section.

+The Grievances will be open from 8:00 AM EST until 7:00 PM EST.

+The PFB Staff will then convene, vote on our favorite Grievance and the winner will receive one of our special giveaways we have planned.

What Giveaways you ask?

We here at PFB have hooked up with some of the best up and coming authors and musicians around the country to provide you with the oppurtunity to sample their goods before anyone else!

So a fortnight turned into a little longer, but hey, it’ll all be worth it in the end.

Until we meet again….

The Week Ahead: Truths and Lies, NFL Week in Review and BCS Previews 0

Posted on September 15, 2009 by Joshua

Alright guys, send in your statements for this week’s “Truths and Lies”. So far, I’ve got a couple. Looking for 3-5 more. If you need a refresher on on how this works, here we go:

You will Tweet me (@JoshuaDRollins) email me ( joshuadrollins at gmail.com) a statement (example: Warren Sapp will replace Shaq as the most incoherent tweeter athlete.) I will respond that it is a TRUTH or a LIE and expound up on it (Example: TRUE. I’m pretty sure my 6 week old nephew is more advanced that @QBKILLA).

Also, for those interested, I scrapped my NFL Preview. I had some technical difficulties getting it up on time. Instead, I’ll be doing a Week in Review at some point this week.

Special thanks to those of you who contributed to the BCS Previews. I’m still looking for a regular Pac 10 and ACC writer. If you’re interested, please let me know!

Have a good day!

A Letter from the Editor 1

Posted on September 09, 2009 by Joshua

Dear Readers,

It’s been just a little less than 48 hours since I’ve taken over as your editor here at PrayersForBlowouts.com. Over the week leading up to me being announced editor I had several great ideas for the site and over the next few weeks I will be debuting several new features. We want this to be a place where you can come, get a little sports insight, get a little humor and get a little dose of community, all while pointing towards a life that exclaims Jesus.

Over the next few days, we will be rolling out previews from all BCS Conferences and their week ahead. We will also be rolling out Member’s Predictions for the NCAA Season as well as the NFL season. I’ve also been working hard on an NFL Preview that is unlike anything else out there, I’m sure. I hope you’ll all enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it. However, due to time constraints, I will not have this NFL Preview up before “Opening Night” tomorrow Night – but of course, us true sports fans know that opening day is really Sunday*, instead the NFL Preview will be up on Saturday morning.

I’ve really felt welcomed by your community and I want to thank you all for that. It’s not very easy to take over something that someone worked as hard on as Bryan did and not dropping the ball. I’m trying my best not to be the Warren Moon of Sports Blogging. We have some cool things in the works, such as The PrayersForPodcasts, PFB Mailbag, interviews, more Truth and Lies and a special column on faith from a guest writer inside the Christian community.

I appreciate all your feedback you’ve given me. It’s been much appreciated. Feel free to send me an e-mail at JoshuaDRollins at Gmail dot com, or shoot me a tweet @joshuarollins. Don’t forget to check back often. Tell your friends to check us out. If you’ve got enemies, first – Love them, make them your friend, and then tell them to check us out as well. Most of all have fun.

Grace and Peace,

sig

*(kind of like MLB opening night doesn’t really exist, right? Opening Day should always be April 1 in Cincinnati… anywho…)

** (Then again, he is a Hall of Famer).

Welcome From The Editor; Upcoming Site Changes 6

Posted on September 08, 2009 by Joshua

That’s right, folks, I am your new Editor here at PrayersForBlowouts.com.I thought I would take the time to introduce myself to you and let you know about some of the things we have coming up here at PFB.

My name is Joshua Rollins and I live in the great city of Columbus, Ohio by way of Southern West Virginia. Sports and Journalism are two of my true loves and I hope that I’m able to bring them both to you in a way that is entertaining and true. I am a fan of those teams that you all seem to hate (including a couple no one cares about) – however, I am going to be as unbiased as possible (unless of course this team… or this team are playing for the Championship).

I’m also a Christian. I first accepted Jesus into my life as a child and have had a wild ride ever since. There have been a lot of serious highs, but also a lot of scary lows. I’m a member of a local body of believers that I love being a part of. I hope to share more of my journey with you in the coming months.

Okay, aside from the boring biography, and hopefully you haven’t stopped reading yet, there are some fun things coming up at PFB.com in the next few weeks.

News: A lot of people close to me have spoken up in the last few months about not being able to enjoy other sports blogs around. Despite providing great news and insight into what’s going on in the world of Sports, they’reconstantly bombarded with lewd and unfavorable language. We, the PFB Staff, make a promise to you to never go down this route. We will always keep it clean, fun and entertaining – but we will not result to sophomoric humor. Ever.

Reviews: We will begin with this NFL season and provide weekly reviews of the weeks games ahead. A conference by conference breakdown as well as a highlight of the PFB Game of the Week.

Columns: Weekly columns by PrayersForBlowouts contributors as we cover the wide world of sports and faith – and how they often collide.

Interviews: Bryan started this tradition, and we intend to carry it on. We will be providing interviews and insight with those around the Sports world. Look for our first interview in the coming weeks!

Podcasts: Bryan and I will soon begin hosting a podcast. Look for more news on this soon.

These are just a few of the things we have in store for PrayersForBlowouts.com! Look for more news in the coming weeks.

Say Hello to a New PFB Editor 1

Posted on September 08, 2009 by bryan

His name: Joshua Rollins.

What he’s here to do: Blitz you on first down, break up a no-hitter with a bunt, and throw up half court shots because he can hit them.

What does that mean? I have no idea.

So what’s the point again? The point is that Joshua Rollins is your new editor of Prayers For Blowouts.

I’d say more but I’ll let him introduce himself this week.

Please treat him well. And by “treat him well” I mean “cordially disagree with everything he says for the sake of good conversation”.

Glad to have you aboard, Joshua.

PS…I’ll still be around writing and commenting, so don’t go shedding no tears for me.

a few things to check out while you celebrate Canada’s Victoria Day…

+ Former KU basketball star Wayne Simien is transitioning from playing pro basketball to working in the ministry. Regarding his move to his organization called Called To Greatness, Simien said, “I am more excited about this transition into ministry than I was on college signing day or even draft night.” (h/t: PFB Member Matt Ralph)

+ Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. has dropped the name ‘crusaders’ as their mascot, stating “the Crusader no longer represented the positive message of Christian love we aim to share with the world.” Their new mascot name, The Lions, was chosen “because it is a symbol of courage and strength.” It was not chosen because lions routinely ate Christians in ancient Rome.

+ Over at Stuff Christians Like on Friday, Bryan Allain (that’s me) presented a 20-Question Sports Idolatry Quiz to help readers determine if they needed to take a time out from sports.

+ Finally, Prayers For Blowouts has been added to the Guideposts Blog Network. For more information, keep an eye on CNN.com this week. Or not.
