Batterson on Favre 0

Posted on July 17, 2009 by bryan

There’s two things that pastor and author Mark Batterson is known for around these parts:

1 – losing to Andy Osenga (like we all did) in the 2008 NFL Predictions Game.

and

2 – claiming to be a fan of the Vikings, Packers, and Redskins all at the same time.

We love Mark here at PFB, and figured we’d pass along his thoughts on Favre going to the Vikes, since that kinda involves 2 of his 3 favorite teams.

I can’t keep silent any longer. As a life-long Vikings and Packers fan I have to go on record. And, no, that wasn’t a misprint. I was born in Minneapolis and lived in Wisconsin as a kid. I’ve got purple and green in my veins. How can I love two rivals? I have no idea, but I do. I just hate it when they play each other.

Here’s the bottom line: I hope Brett Favre comes back for another season. If he does, I predict the Vikings will win the NFC North with a record of 11-5. The Packers will improve to 10-6 and earn a wild card. And the Vikings will be playing in the Superbowl. There you have it.

If Favre doesn’t return? This blog post will self-destruct.

By the way, I’m actually waiting until Favre makes a decision to make my decision on whether or not to get the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Gotta admit, the thought of a conflicted Mark trying to watch a Packers-Vikings game is kinda funny.

Remember, a house divided against itself can not stand.

UFR: What Did I Miss? 4

My family and I spent the weekend up at a cabin near State College, PA with a bunch of friends. We had a great time playing games, going on a hike, playing golf, and just hanging out. Why am I telling you this? Because the cabin didn’t have interwebnet access, so other than occasional updates on my iPhone (because I didn’t want to be ‘that guy’), I was basically exiled from the sports world for 48 hours.

Here’s what I’ve caught up on at this point: 7 Top ten College Football teams lost this weekend, the Mets blew it, the White Sox aren’t dead yet, Broncos and Cowboys lost, and Brett Favre is immortal.

Sure, I could go to ESPN.com and read stories about what happened, but I like my news with a bit of personal opinion sprinkled in. So tell me, Upon Further Review, what did I miss this weekend?

+ The 14-18 Elon University Phoenix basketball team was one win away from an automatic bid into this year’s NCAA Tournament before losing to Davidson on Monday night. As Deadspin points out, the Elon athletic teams used to be called “The Fighting Christians” until 1999 when they went D1.

+ Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Chandler, AZ is hosting a leadership seminar on April 18th called the Maximum Impact Simulcast. The event will include over 80,000 business professionals participating via satellite downlink in 600 churches across North America. The stage will be populated by the likes of leadership guru Dr. John C. Maxwell, former Nike creative katalyst Kevin Carroll, author Andy Stanley, and ESPN analyst Dick Vitale. The event will be hosted by CBS sports analyst Spencer Tillman.

+ Pastor Mark Batterson, who we’ve ribbed here before, was talking to some Wisconsin pastors when Brett Favre’s retirement was announced.

+ Michelle Campbell was told she couldn’t do her job last month when she showed up for work on Groundhog Day. Her job: refereeing boys’ basketball in Kansas. The reason: she’s a woman. Campbell was told she could not ref the game because it would put her in a position of authority – something that went against the policy of St. Mary’s Academy, a private religious school in St. Marys, KS. Since the incident happened, the Kansas State High School Activities Association has stepped in to intervene. The message they sent after a meeting last night: Let women officiate.
